How to Reset a Trading Account Negative Balance

Updated this week

How to Reset a Trading Account Negative Balance is a critical procedure for traders who encounter negative account equity due to market volatility. This guide explains how to use the Client Portal to submit a reset request and details the criteria for automatic versus manual approval.

Overview of the Negative Balance Reset Function

The Negative Balance Reset function is a protection mechanism provided by FXTRADING. When market volatility causes your trading account balance to fall below zero, this feature allows you to restore the balance to zero, ensuring you are not liable for losses exceeding your initial investment.

Prerequisites and Restrictions for Reset Requests

Prerequisites and Restrictions for Reset Requests must be fully met before the system displays the reset option. You cannot apply for a negative balance reset if any of the following seven conditions exist:

  1. Abnormal Account Status: The trading account status is restricted or abnormal.

  2. Funds Management Accounts: The account is a Funds Management Account, which is ineligible for self-service resets.

  3. Demo Accounts: Negative balance resets are not available for demo/practice accounts.

  4. Pending Reset Requests: There is already a pending negative balance reset application for this account.

  5. Pending Withdrawals: There are withdrawal requests currently under review or being processed.

  6. Trading Bonuses: The account contains active trading bonuses or credit.

  7. Open Positions: There are active trade orders or pending orders (limit/stop) in the MT4 or MT5 account.

Furthermore, the real-time account balance must be negative (less than zero). If the account balance is zero or positive, the reset button will be hidden automatically.

Steps to Manually Request a Negative Balance Reset

Steps to Manually Request a Negative Balance Reset are performed within the Client Portal as follows:

  1. Log In: Access the official website and log into your Client Portal.

  2. Navigate to Accounts: Select the Account section from the sidebar navigation menu.

  3. Locate the Account: Find the specific trading account requiring the reset.

  4. Open the Action Menu: Click the Three Dots icon on the far right of the account row.

  5. Select Reset: Choose Negative Balance Reset from the menu.

Thresholds and Audit Logic for Automatic Approval

Thresholds and Audit Logic for Automatic Approval determine if your request is processed instantly or requires a manual review by our team.

Automatic Approval Thresholds

If the absolute value of your negative balance is less than or equal to the following amounts, the system will approve and execute the reset automatically:

  • USD: 3,000

  • GBP: 2,300

  • EUR: 2,600

  • HKD: 23,500

  • AUD: 4,600

  • SGD: 3,900

  • JPY: 468,800

  • CAD: 4,200

Manual Audit Mechanism

If the negative balance is greater than the thresholds listed above, the request will be converted into a ticket for the Trading Compliance team. The team will review the trading activity. If the activity complies with regulations, the balance will be reset to zero; otherwise, the request will be denied.
